George Schiro Memorial Fund
"You only go around once, but if you do it right, once is enough."
George Schiro, who passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018, at age 93, was a stalwart in not only the Madison golfing community, but Madison as a whole.
Upon returning to Madison, in 1946, after attending Kansas University and serving in the Navy Air Force, Schiro reconnected with his love of the game of golf. Over the years he worked at a number of golf courses in Madison and opened a variety of businesses, along with directing and producing a live TV show in the early 1960's.
Golf was always his passion, so after entering the PGA program, at age 48, he earned his PGA card. Upon his election to PGA membership he concentrated solely on teaching and working as a golf professional. The main areas Schiro devoted his time an energy to were junior golf and high school golf teams. As a result he received many awards for his work with junior golfers throughout his teaching career.
In honor of his life's work, the Balance & Believe Foundation has started the George Schiro Memorial Fund. All donations to this fund will be used to continue Schiro's legacy of working with the junior golfers of Madison.
We would like to thank the Fund's inaugural donors - Van Stoutt, Dan Buckley, Sue Hiestand, and Suzanne Schlittenhart.
